Although localization by definition involves translation, it is important to understand that not all translators can localize products and you must be careful about choosing the right professional to perform localization tasks. Localization is the process of making the product linguistically and culturally appropriate to the target locale (country/region and language) where it will be used and sold. It involves translation of software, documentation and online help as well as adapting the terminology to avoid misinterpretation in the target language. Localizing a product also means applying local conventions, such as date and time, currency figure formats and ensuring all graphics and color schemes are culturally appropriate. We routinely offer two types of testing: linguistic and functional. In linguistic testing we systematically proof previously translated material to guarantee overall consistency of style and terminology, as well as strict adherence to established style guides and grammatical conventions.

Our software engineers perform functional testing of previously translated software. They ensure that the functionality of the localized version is equivalent to that of the original. Our testing services include:

As part of our commitment to reducing client costs, we use up-to-date technology in Translation Memory Management. The research team at Equus Traducciones has developed, in collaboration with the University of Granada (research group PETRA HUM 815), a part-of-speech tagger that tags every word in a text with its morphosyntactic category. This tagger allows us to perform a great variety of advanced operations on the text, increasing the quality and efficiency of the translation and editing processes.
